Plant Engineer

Job Description

The Plant Engineer leads all Engineering and Maintenance activities and teams. Support in all complex project design, electrical, mechanical, environmental and layout development work in connection with equipment, new construction, or rearrangements in-plant facilities. Work involves the handling of technical duties where decisions are made within the limits of general practices and standards.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares designs and layouts for operations activities.
  • Prepares specifications for bids, evaluates bids, and makes recommendations.
  • Provides technical assistance and problem-solving in maintenance areas.
    Estimates labor and material requirements for engineering projects.
  • Designs electrical and mechanical systems to enhance operations.
  • Monitors and adheres to recommended safety requirements and manage environmental compliance.
  • Establishes a course of action to complete jobs and/or projects.
  • Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions.
  • Leads daily schedules for the Maintenance department to achieve throughput objectives.
  • Performs Gemba walks of all areas of the facility while having visibility on all shifts.
  • Develops and analyzes product workflows including equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Utilizes Lean Mfg. and Six Sigma methodologies to improve operational throughput.
  • Partners with plant HR to hire, train and develop personnel in the department.
    Ensure maintenance PM schedule meets equipment guidelines and coincides with operations schedules.
  • Drives a culture of continuous improvement focused on internal customer support and growth.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Four-year degree or equivalent experience. Knowledge of engineering principles, Lean Mfg., Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, relevant computer applications, including all Microsoft Office programs.
